Musandam Governorate

Musandam Governorate : مسندم
Geographically, the Musandam peninsula juts into the Strait of Hormuz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Hormuz), the narrow entry into the Persian Gulf, from the Arabian Peninsula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_Peninsula). The Musandam peninsula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula) is an exclave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclave) of Oman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oman), separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Emirates). Its location gives Oman partial control, shared with Iran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran), of the strategic strait. In the northern section of Musandam, around Kumzar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumzar), the language is Kumzari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumzari), which is one of the south-western Iranian languages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_languages) and related to Luri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luri_language) and Persian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_language). The Musandam Peninsula has an area of 1,800 square kilometers (695 sq mi) and a population of 31,425 people. Connectivity has traditionally been a problem for the region, but this has greatly improved since August 2008 with the world's fastest passenger ferry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinas_%28ferry%29) launching service between Muscat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscat,_Oman) and Musandam. www.Musandam.net (http://www.Musandam.net)

Administrative divisionsMusandam Governorate consists of four districts (wilayat):
Khasab (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khasab)
Bukha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bukha)
Dibba Al-Baya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dibba_Al-Baya)
Madha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madha)
Khasab town is the regional center of the Governorate.
The area has great strategic importance owing to its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Hormuz)

Geography The rugged coastline resembles the glacier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacier)-carved coasts of polar regions, but in this case, the coast was shaped by the movement of Earth’s crust. The Arabian plate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_plate) is slowly pushing under the Eurasian plate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_plate), creating the earthquake-prone mountains of Iran. On the leading edge of the Arabian plate, the Musandam Peninsula is sinking. The higher elevation mountains remain above the water, but the sea has rushed in to fill the valleys with fingers of water
