Welcome all to the third lesson in the course

In this lesson we will be working with another basic verb in English Language which is " Past Simple" .I wish you a very enjoyable time .h
In this lesson we will focus on 3 things:h

-When to use Past Simple

-How to form Past Simple affirmative and negative sentences and questions

-Regular and irregular verbs

First: The uses

Finished events in the past with no connection to the present

Examples

Ali prepared the meal.

Noora left home

Amal and Thuraya drew a big picture


With a finished time word (last week, yesterday, last month, at 2 o'clock, in 2005, before 3 hours)h

Examples

I saw my old teacher yesterday

She prepared a delicious meal last night

Barcelona played with Juventus before 2 days

For stories / lists of events

Examples

My father visited his old friend in Nizwa last week, went with my brother to see the traditional Suq,then they had lunch together in a nice restaurant


I started my master study last year, so I travelled to Britian and made new friends


As part of second conditional

Examples

If I had money, I would buy everything I want

If she knew how to cook, she would invite her fiancé for dinner

Second: Forming Affirmative and Negative

Simple past statement
Informal negative
Formal negative
Laila had a car Laila didn't have a car
 Laila did not have a car
He ate my apple He didn't eat my apple
 He did not eat my apple
Ali went to Lebanon last year Ali didn’t go to Lebanon last year Ali did not go to Lebanon last year.
Verb to be in the past simple

Third: Forming Questions

Forming a yes/no question
Yes/no questions are made by using the auxiliary did. In forming the question, the auxiliary "did" is placed before the subject.

Examples

Ali ate the sandwich

Did Ali eat the sandwich?h

Rahaf visited her grandmother.

Did Rahaf visit her grandmother?h

Making WH- questions

Making questions with using words such as "what", "when", and "where" are also created by putting the auxiliary did before the subject . Here are some examples

They lived in Sohar. Did they live in Sohar? Where did they live?
